Brazil’s economic problems are again hitting the pay-TV sector.

The latest data from Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) states that in February alone the number of pay-TV subscribers (satellite and cable) fell from 19.05 million to 18.96 million.

The largest fall was with DTH satellite subscribers, which fell back from 11.04 million in January to 10.96 million by the end of February.  Cable subscribers fell by around 100,000 to 7.81 million. IPTV subscribers grew slightly from 173,900 to 175,000.

As far as operators are concerned, America Movil group is still the largest with a 52.01 per cent market share (9.86 million) while Sky Brazil/AT&T has a 28.3 per cent share (5.36 million).
