Spanish broadcaster Grupo Secuoya is in talks with the publishing group Unidad Editorial to acquire its two DTT licences for around €50 million in an operation subject to the approval of the Ministry of Industry.

Grupo Secuoya is seeking to grow its presence in the DTT market operating three DTT channels – following the recent award of a nationwide DTT channel enabling the group to compete with Mediaset and Atresmedia.

The two licences are now being used by 13TV and Discovery Networks which pay an estimated rent to Unidad Editorial of around €5 million a year.

Grupo Secuoya is now finalising the launch for early next year of a family-oriented channel branded D10.

Secuoya’s decision to buy the licences comes soon after the government awarded six new DTT channels to Atresmedia, Mediaset, Real Madrid TV, Grupo Secuoya, 13TV and radio group Radio Blanca (Kiss FM).
