Broadband operator Fastweb has become the first Internet Service Provider in Italy to activate new IPv6 connections for its customers.

All new Fastweb customers in Ancona, Bari, Bergamo, Brescia, Busto Arsizio, Legnano, Livorno, Monza, Padua, Pescara, Pisa, Reggio Emilia, Varese and Verona will get IPv6 addresses. The service will be available in Milan by the end of the year and in Rome at the beginning of 2016, before being progressively extended to all other cities over the coming months.

Each new home device will be assigned a public and unique IP address that will allow Fastweb customers to access new applications in the field of Smart Home and Internet of Things.

The introduction of IPv6 will not impact the way customers use the Internet. In addition to the new IPv6 addresses, customers will continue to also have an IPv4 address. In this way, Fastweb will guarantee full accessibility to all websites and online services currently available.
