India’s public broadcaster, Doordarshan, is to again auction off a batch of ‘Freedish’ frequencies in an attempt to boost the number of channels to its target of 112 services.

Doordarshan has set a starting price of 37 million Rupees (about €500,000) for each channel up for grabs, and the auction – which will be held on September 22nd – although the auction will be staged at 15 minute intervals on the day.

The broadcaster says that winning participants must be prepared to switch to MPEG4, and broadcasts would remain free-to-air.

Currently Freedish carries 64 channels.
