China: Sumavision partners with Hunan
April 10, 2014
Beijing-based digital video and IPTV system provider Sumavision has signed an agreement with Hunan Cable TV Network Group, a subsidiary of Hunan TV & Broadcast Intermediary, that will see the two companies jointly operate Internet TV services as well as cooperate on distribution of smart terminals and development and marketing of smart home gateways and routers.
Under the partnership, Sumavision will spend more than RMB 1 billion on the construction of an integrated online video platform, terminal distribution, and procurement of Internet TV content. The company plans to replace all of the standard-resolution STBs currently used by its Hunan-based subscribers, estimated to number more than 3 million devices, with HD-resolution smart STB terminals within three years.
Sumavision will also work with Hunan Cable TV Network Group to develop new internet video technologies and cable TV-based support platforms for IP services.
The partnership is valid for five years.
