Bharti Airtel is selling part of its India DTH business according to local reports. The move, if confirmed, could be the first stage of a long-expected period of consolidation amongst India’s huge, but debt-laden, DTH businesses.

Singapore Telecom owns one-third of Bharti which is a India’s largest cellular operator.

Bharti Airtel is said to be contemplating selling a 25 per cent stake in its DTH television business. The division has more than 7.9 million DTH subscribers, and the division is said to be worth more than $1 billion.
