For the past three weeks, Jordanian TV channel JoSat has been dark, unavailable because of actions by an unnamed – but senior – figure. In a statement, reported by BBC Monitoring, the channel said it had worked hard at finding out who was responsible for ordering the Amman-based uplink centre to take the channel down, “but all these attempts have failed in identifying who made the ban decision”.

Consequently, the channel is now being uplinked from outside Jordan, and is back on Nilesat. Meanwhile, the channel apologised to its viewers because of the suspension in its transmission, which was beyond its control. “However, it promised the Jordanian people to remain the lung through which they can breathe when the oxygen levels are low or when they feel suffocated,” said their statement.
