A legal action brought by Mexico’s Televisa Group has halted the digitisation of the country’s broadcasting. Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Commission says its hands are tied until the legal dispute is resolved.

The action revolves around a plan to switch off all analogue transmission on December 31st 2015. It is understood that Televisa, despite being interested in some of the frequencies that will be freed up as part of the analogue switch off, is concerned over the high costs associated with digital broadcasting.

Another theory, mentioned locally, is that Televisa is holding out for better terms which might flow after the upcoming presidential elections (due in July).
