March 10, 2026
Channel 4 has revealed that Stand Up To Cancer 2025 prompted meaningful attitudinal shifts among viewers, according to a survey. Stand Up To Cancer UK is a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4, bringing the nation together to accelerate life-saving research.
The night of programming on Channel 4 reached 4.7 million viewers across streaming and linear platforms within 28 days, encouraging millions to monitor symptoms, seek advice and start lifesaving conversations through a blend of entertainment, science and personal storytelling.
After watching Stand Up To Cancer programmes:
- 34 per cent said they will now pay more attention to changes in their health, rising to 44 per cent among 16-34-year-olds.
- 18 per cent of 16-34-year-olds were encouraged to speak to a doctor or health professional and 12 per cent said they’d enquired about a cancer screening.
- 89 per cent viewers recognised the importance of early cancer detection.
- 126 per cent 16-34-year-olds discussed cancer screening with friends or family following the broadcast.
Tom Beck, Head of Live Events and Commissioning Editor at Channel 4, commented: “We are incredibly proud that the Stand Up To Cancer live broadcast had such a powerful impact on viewers, particularly inspiring audiences to discuss and enquire about cancer screenings. Stand Up To Cancer is a joint national fundraising campaign with Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK, raising millions for life-saving research and driving awareness of the importance of screening and early detection.”
Nicola Smith, Senior Health Information Manager at Cancer Research UK, added: “Having open conversations around cancer is so important and this is something that the Stand Up To Cancer live show does a brilliant job at encouraging. Detecting cancer early saves lives – this is why we created the screening checker last year, together with Channel 4. Since it launched, we’ve seen over 142,000 visits to the website so far from people seeking information about screening. Screening is a powerful tool to spot cancer at an early stage, and cervical and bowel screening can even prevent the disease from developing in the first place. The cancer screening programmes save thousands of lives each year in the UK, which is why raising awareness of these programmes and addressing barriers people face to taking part are key priorities for Cancer Research UK.”
The programming aligned with Channel 4’s remit to challenge with purpose and create change through entertainment with eight in 10 viewers of the programming agreeing Channel 4 inspires change.
