Massimo Musolino, Chief Executive Officer for Management and Operations at Mediaset Spain, is set to retire next March, bringing to an end a professional career spanning more than 24 uninterrupted years within the group.
Approaching his 67th birthday, Musolino will step down from a role that has been widely regarded as one of the key pillars underpinning the operational and financial stability of the Spanish audiovisual group. Until his departure, he will continue to oversee the viability and day-to-day management of the company.
Musolino first joined the group in 1994 and has been continuously linked to Mediaset Spain since 2002. His decision to retire will be formally announced at the company’s next board meeting.
Throughout his tenure, Musolino has built a reputation for efficient resource management and for steering the company through some of the most significant transformations in its history. These include the conversion of Gestevisión Telecinco into Mediaset Spain and, more recently, the integration of the Spanish business into MFE-MediaForEurope. On 1 January 2023, he assumed the position of Chief Executive alongside Alessandro Salem, leading a new phase for the group following the departure of long-standing executive Paolo Vasile.
He played a central role in the technical and financial execution of the merger by absorption of Mediaset Spain into its Italian parent company, a strategic move aimed at creating a major European audiovisual player. Under his leadership, the group promoted the Mediaset Infinity platform and implemented new strategies in programmatic advertising and digital formats for HbbTV.
He is also recognised for delivering strong operating results while optimising costs, even during periods of intense competition in the advertising market. In public appearances, he has consistently argued that “free-to-air television remains alive because it has learned how to reinvent itself”, advocating a long-term, sustainable business model adapted to the current audiovisual landscape.
A graduate in Economics and Banking Sciences from the University of Siena, with an MBA from the University of Turin’s Business School, Musolino began his career at Sirio Group in Milan before joining Fininvest’s Planning and Control Department. In 1994, he moved to Spain to lead Management Control at Gestevisión Telecinco, later becoming Director of Operations and Control and, in 1998, Deputy Managing Director for Management.
After a brief return to Italy at RTI, the company managing Mediaset’s television channels, he rejoined Gestevisión Telecinco in 2002. Since then, he has led management and operations at Mediaset Spain, a chapter that will conclude with his retirement next spring.
