SpaceRISE, the consortium of satellite operators SES, Eutelsat and Hispasat, has successfully brought into use Ka-band military frequencies through a dedicated Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite operated by Eutelsat, one of many among the large fleets of multi-orbital satellites operated by the members of SpaceRISE.

By leveraging ‘Ka mil’, a part of the Ka frequency range harmonised for military and governmental use, SpaceRISE thereby secures its filings of Europe’s Ka spectrum on the IRIS² orbit.

The securing of Ka mil frequency further assures flexibility of use for a wide array of key applications on IRIS², designed to connect Europe and the world securely, supporting sovereign and governmental communications.

SpaceRISE is a 12-year concession to run IRIS2 with the system expected to come into full use from the beginning of 2030.

Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security by Satellite (IRIS²) will be European Union’s preferred and trusted network to provide reliable, secure, and cost-effective communication solutions for governmental institutions, commercial organisations, and European citizens.

The system depends on Eutelsat for LEO craft, SES for Mid-Earth satellites as well as the consortium’s geostationary fleets.
