BBC Studios confirms 100+ Death Valley global sales

September 23, 2025

At MIPCOM 2025, BBC Studios has confirmed a host of global sales for Death Valley with over 100 international markets confirmed to air the series.

The six-part series produced by BBC Studios Comedy productions achieved the largest UK overnights audience for a new scripted show in five years at launch and has sold to over 100 markets internationally from Australia and North America (BritBox) to Asia (Mystery Channel, Japan and Coupang, South Korea), Europe (Cosmo, Spain and COSMOTE TV, Greece) and New Zealand (TVNZ) via a range of broadcast partnerships.

Written by Paul Doolan (Mammoth, Trollied), Death Valley (6×45’) follows the crime-solving partnership between eccentric national treasure John Chapel (BAFTA winner Timothy Spall – The Sixth Commandment, Mr Turner), a retired actor and star of hit fictional detective TV show ‘Caesar’ and disarming Welsh detective sergeant Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth – Alex Rider, Hidden). Thrown together by the murder of John’s neighbour, John and Janie are an odd, yet hilarious duo with opposing instincts.

Janet Brown, President, Global Content Sales, BBC Studios said: Death Valley’s rapid success, with strong audience ratings and critical acclaim in the UK and standout sales internationally, speaks to the creative strength of the BBC Studios Comedy team. It’s a distinctly British story with global appeal, brought to life by exceptional talent on and off screen. With a second series underway, we’re confident it will continue to travel far and wide — it would be a crime to think otherwise.”

Meanwhile, BBC Studios scripted titles launching at MIPCOM 2025 include Sister Productions’ Waiting for the Out (w/t) (6×50’) based on Andy West’s acclaimed memoir The Life Inside, from the multi-award-winning writer Dennis Kelly. BAFTA nominated Josh Finan (The Responder) leads the cast as Dan, a philosopher who begins teaching a class of men in prison. Each week, Dan leads discussions about dominance, freedom, luck and other topics that have troubled philosophers for thousands of years – topics that gain a new meaning when seen through the prisoners’ eyes – both igniting passions and creating tension.

From producers Fearless Minds and House Productions, Mint (8×60’) is a darkly comic and unconventional drama about a crime family’s inner life, created, written and directed by Charlotte Regan (Scrapper).

Written and directed by John Morton, Twenty Twenty Six (6×30’) is a new series from the team behind W1A and Twenty Twelve, produced by Expectation. Having previously held a leadership role on the London Games of Twenty Twelve and a spell in W1A as the Head of Values at the BBC, Ian Fletcher (Hugh Bonneville) is now bound for the greatest stage in world football. Next year’s tournament will be the biggest ever. Hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico with 48 countries taking part and 16 venues thousands of miles apart across the whole of North America; what could possibly go wrong? Ian Fletcher is about to find out, as he joins the Twenty Twenty-Six Oversight Team in Miami as its Director of Integrity.
