October 28, 2024
Disney+ has revealed a companion podcast for its Rivals series, based on the iconic novel by Dame Jilly Cooper. The podcast features members of the cast and special guests in exclusive conversation with Pandora Sykes and accompanies the eight-part television adaptation.
Set against the backdrop of 1980s England, Rivals follows the ruthless competition in British independent television and brings power struggles, ambition, and shocking social antics to the forefront.
The podcast will offer a behind-the-scenes experience for fans, with exclusive interviews and reflections from the cast, including Alex Hassell (Rupert Campbell-Black), Bella Maclean (Taggie O’Hara), Danny Dyer (Freddie Jones), Nafessa Williams (Cameron Cook), Emily Atack (Sarah Stratton), Gary Lamont (Charles Fairburn), and Lara Peake (Daysee Butler).
Delving deeper into key themes from Rivals, the podcast hears from Nafessa Williams (Cameron Cook) and writer Dare Aiyegbayo, who explore the complexities of race and representation in a predominantly white, male-dominated world. Aiyegbayo celebrates the dynamic energy and liberation she found writing Rivals in a female-led writers’ room. Meanwhile Lamont delves into the challenges of being a gay man in the 1980s, reflecting on the complexities of his story arc.
Rivals: The Official Podcast is a new format, created by podcast producers, Listen, in partnership with Wondery. It is available across all podcast platforms.
