With the increase in video-rich content travelling across networks, there are major implications for existing network operators in terms of capacity demands and the risk of becoming a ‘dumb pipe’, unable to monetise the bandwidth-hungry, high-quality video delivered to the end consumer. Is there a conflict between the ability to manage heavily invested networks and the requirements of network neutrality? How can these conflicts be resolved? Colin Mann seeks some answers.
