Brazil’s National Telecoms Agency says that the country now has more than 11 million pay-TV subscribers. 1.3 million net new subs were added during the first half of this year, with DTH satellite taking just over half of that total. A total of 235,000 subs were added in June alone.

DTH now has 5.61 million registered subscribers (up 3.7 per cent), while cable’s market share of 46.9 per cent with 5.1 million subs (up 8 per cent in June). MMDS connections fell back another 2 per cent, and the total MMDS subs base is now just 275,000.

The good news is that despite this growth, pay-TV is still only penetrated to 18.5 per cent of the nation’s households. The regulator says that this equates to about 36.6 million viewers.
