Mediapro secures French La Ligue 2 TV rights
December 5, 2018
From David del Valle in Madrid
The Spanish TV group Mediapro has consolidated its position in the French TV market following the awarding by the French professional football league (LFP) of the domestic media rights for its second tier Ligue 2 for the 2020-21 to 2023-24 seasons.
Through BeIN Sports, Mediapro will pay €64 million for the four year agreement to be added to an annual €1.15 billion for the first division Ligue 1 for the same period.
Mediapro will exclusively broadcast 8 Ligue 1 games at 7pm every Saturday as well as mid-week games starting with the 2020 season.
It is the first time that the French pay-TV channel Canal Plus will not air the French Ligue.
