Russian news service Interfax is reporting that the upcoming launch of Spanish satellite Amazonas-5, built by Space Systems/Loral, and originally expected to launch on September 9th, may now slip to later in September.

Amazonas-5, owned by Hispasat of Madrid, is needed in orbit to replace capacity lost on Amazonas-4 when it suffered power problems in early 2014. Amazonas-5 has 24 Ku-band transponders for DTH broadcasts, and 34 Ka-band spot beams for internet services.

Amazonas-5 is being launched by International Launch Services (ILS) from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. ILS will use a Proton/Briz-M rocket.

Interfax says that the postponement is due to the rocket’s late shipment to the launch site. The satellite itself has been at Baikonur since August 10th.
