Time Warner has reported better-than-expected profits on the back of DC Universe movie Wonder Woman.

The US media firm posted an 11.6 per cent rise in Q2 net income to $1.1 billion (€885m), driven by a strong performance by Warner Bros, which includes its movie business.  Wonder Woman had grossed about $800 million worldwide by the end of July, it said.  The firm has already confirmed a sequel, currently set for Q4 2019.

Revenue from its HBO channel, home to hit fantasy phenomenon Game of Thrones, rose slightly to $1.48 billion.

Time Warner performed best in its Warner Bros division, where revenues increased 12 per cent to $3 billion, due to higher film and video games sales.  As well as Wonder Woman, the Lego Batman Movie and JK Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them also drew big box office numbers.
