Rogan Productions names Burns Head of Scripted Development
April 28, 2026
Rogan Productions has appointed Anna Burns as its new Head of Scripted Development, a newly created role marking a significant strategic shift for the company as it moves into scripted content. The appointment follows two of the company’s drama projects being put into funded development by major broadcasters and comes on the heels of the release of Boom Box: Beats and Betrayal (HBO Max). Rogan Productions’ ground-breaking drama doc series detailing the events of Operation Peyzac with first hand testimony from the individuals involved blended with dramatised scenes of the extraordinary real-life events.
It has been a busy year for the independent company, owned and run by James and Soleta Rogan, with six titles released so far, including Bowie: The Final Act, Becoming Victoria Wood and The Secret of Me which were distributed in cinemas. Rogan Productions also picked up several BAFTA Craft nominations for the already multi-award-winning Grenfell: Uncovered (Netflix), winning Emerging Talent: Factual, and is nominated for Single Documentary at the upcoming BAFTA TV Awards.
The appointment of Burns follows a build-out of Rogan’s senior creative leadership including the appointment of Merle Currie as the Head of Unscripted Development, and the arrival of Jenny Popplewell as Head of Factual last summer.
Burns brings a wealth of experience in the scripted space to Rogan productions, joining the company from Buccaneer Media, where she was an Executive Producer on In Flight (Channel 4). Anna was an Executive Producer on The Doll Factory for Paramount+, and the first two series of Whitstable Pearl for Acorn / U Drama. Prior to joining Buccaneer, Anna was Creative Executive at Blueprint Pictures where she worked across films including Seven Psychopaths, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and The Riot Club, as well as building the slate and developing a broad range of features.
Head of Scripted Development Anna Burns said: I’m thrilled to be joining the team at Rogan – a company defined by the creative excellence, integrity and ambition of their storytelling. I’ve had the privilege of working with a phenomenally talented group of writers and creatives during my time at Buccaneer, and I look forward to continuing and expanding these relationships as part of the Rogan fold. The scripted slate is already shaping up to be fantastically exciting, and I cannot wait to build on this to drive the company’s next chapter of growth.
Rogan Productions Creative Director James Rogan added: Over recent years we have built relationships with people ranging from presidents to police officers, rock stars to radicals, and told stories about global figures, investigations and events that have shaped our world. We have been approached about our content for its scripted potential more times than we can count and we have entered some exciting partnerships. Watching In Flight was a revelation for me. Mike Walden is one of the great new voices of drama and under the stewardship of Anna Burns, that series delivered one of most compelling thrillers of last year. Anna’s track record encompasses the range and enthusiasm for diversity of storytelling in film and drama that is at the core of Rogan Productions, we are excited to work with her on what promises to be a truly thrilling slate of projects.
