France: Arcom consults on DTT future
April 27, 2026
From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris
French TV and digital watchdog Arcom has launched a public consultation on the future of DTT and television media.
Open until June 15th, the consultation focuses on the use of the radio spectrum in regards to the expiration in 2027 of the authorisations given to six DTT national channels: TF1 Series Films, 6ter, RMC Story, L’Équipe, RMC Découverte and RMC Life.
More broadly, the consultation seeks to initiate a reflection on the future of television media in the medium and long term with a view to the publication by Arcom of a white paper in 2027.
The regulator is also considering extending the scope of services of general interest to local TV stations.
Specifically, the consultation is organised info four parts: the growth and impact of the sector; the future of DTT; the expiration in 2027 of the authorisations granted to six broadcasters, and the way to modernise the regulatory framework.
Identifying regulatory asymmetric rules, Arcom will consider changes that would allow national services better to fight against competition and global streaming players.
