LG Display investing €630+ in new OLED line

LG Display is moving to expand its sixth-generation OLED production capacity at its Paju, South Korea, facility with an investment of about 1.1 trillion won (about €632 million), aiming to support growing IT and mobile panel demand and prepare for next-generation technologies.
The news emerged in a regulatory filing when LG Display said it will invest 1.106 trillion won to build infrastructure for new OLED technologies, with the investment period running through June 30th 2028. Most of the spending is expected to go toward the new sixth-generation OLED line.
Local reports suggest the expansion is widely seen as a response to the fast pace of technological change led by Apple. Industry officials said Apple’s rapid adoption of new display technologies requires suppliers to simultaneously maintain advanced development capabilities and mass production readiness, increasing the need for dedicated capacity.
The expansion is said to align with Apple’s broader push to adopt OLED displays across more product categories beyond the iPhone, including iPads. As demand rises for low-power, high-performance displays, suppliers face increasing technical requirements, including improvements in low-temperature polycrystalline oxide-based power efficiency, brightness and lifespan.
