Channel 4 News to broadcast Welsh leaders debate

April 15, 2026

With the opinion polls pointing to a political earthquake of a result in the Welsh Parliament elections, Channel 4 News will bring together all six party leaders for a live hour-long debate in Cardiff at 7pm on April 21st – just over two weeks before polling day.

This will give voters in Wales, and a TV audience across Britain, the opportunity to hear directly from party leaders as they set out their priorities and respond to each other under scrutiny.

The party leaders taking part will be:

Eluned Morgan, Leader, Welsh Labour
Rhun ap Iorwerth, Leader, Plaid Cymru
Darren Millar, Leader, Welsh Conservatives
Dan Thomas, Leader Reform UK Wales
Jane Dodds, Leader, Welsh Liberal Democrats
Anthony Slaughter, Leader, Wales Green Party

Wales Decides will focus on the key issues facing the country, with rigorous questioning and direct exchanges between the party leaders. The programme will offer viewers an impartial, in‑depth examination of policy differences and leadership approaches at what could be a major turning point in Welsh politics.

Will this Senedd election see Reform UK emerge as the largest party? Could Wales see a Plaid Cymru First Minister for the first time ever?

Channel 4 News main anchor, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, has covered every British General Election since 1992, hosted numerous election debate programmes and anchored Channel 4 News election results coverage in the UK and the US. He commented: “Wales is facing an historic election that could see the collapse of the once impenetrable Labour stronghold, and the rise of Plaid and Reform altering the political landscape. We are in unprecedented political times, Wales Decides will shine a vital light on each leader’s policies and approach. Voters in Wales and the UK will be able to see for themselves each party outline their vision for the future.”

Wales Decides follows last night’s (TUES) Channel 4 News special, Scotland Decides, where the six Scottish political party leaders faced off.
