October 13, 2025

BBC Studios and Finnish public service broadcaster Yle have announced the renewal of their long-standing multi-genre output deal. This extension with Yle makes the partnership one of BBC Studios’ longest running in EMEA, with almost three decades of co-operation.
Under the renewed agreement, Yle retains first look access to a range of content across BBC Studios’ scripted and unscripted catalogue. Unscripted titles include a pre-sale of new nature series Kingdom, co-produced with BBC America, and the reimagination of Walking With Dinosaurs from BBC Studios’ Science Unit Production and co-produced with ZDF and France Télévisions. Documentary titles include Scandinavia with Simon Reeve which sees the adventurer travel through some of the most spectacular scenery on earth.
The agreement will also see Yle acquire new dramas including Firebird Pictures’ Outrageous, which brings the full, uncensored story of the Mitford sisters to the screen for the first time, Lynley a new imagining of the mystery crime series based on the bestselling books by Elizabeth George, Death Valley, the hit series about an unlikely crime-solving partnership set against a stunning Welsh backdrop, and Return to Paradise Australia’s successful spin-off of the hit series Death in Paradise.
Janet Brown, President, Global Content Sales, BBC Studios, commented: “I am incredibly proud to be celebrating almost three decades of partnership with Yle. Our long-standing relationship is built on a shared ambition to bring entertaining, inspiring and informative stories to Finnish audiences. Our continued success in this market is testament to our ability to forge meaningful partnerships to deliver standout content to local audiences alongside our own branded services”.
Johanna Törn-Mangs, Director of Culture and Factual Content, Yle, added: “I’m delighted that we can continue our partnership with the BBC Studios. High-quality BBC Studios content is widely loved and valued by Finnish audiences. We are pleased that Yle is able to continue sharing new BBC Studios programmes with viewers in Finland.”
