Disney and Pixar’s sci-fi adventure film Elio will land on the Disney+ streaming platform on September 17th. The movie’s debut onto the platform follows the success of last year’s Inside Out 2 which became the #1 film premiere on Disney+ in 2024, driving 30.5 million views globally in just 5 days.
The film tells the story of Elio, an underdog kid with an active imagination who finds himself inadvertently beamed up to the Communiverse – an interplanetary organisation with representatives from galaxies far and wide. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador to the rest of the universe, he starts to form new bonds with eccentric aliens while discovering who he’s truly meant to be. Elio features the voice talent of Yonas Kibreab, Zoe Saldaña, Remy Edgerly, Young Dylan, Matthias Schweighöfer, Brandon Moon, Brad Garrett and Jameela Jamil, and was directed by the trio of Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi and Adrian Molina.
The latest chapter in the Studio’s storytelling legacy joins a catalogue of timeless films from Pixar Animation Studio, which all began with Toy Story, 30 years ago. Pixar revolutionised the art of animation with the release of Toy Story in 1995 and has since created some of the most successful and beloved animated films of all time. Over the last three decades the studio has released 29 full-length feature films, racked up 71 Academy Award nominations, and taken home 23 Oscars.
2026 marks the return of Toy Story with the franchise’s fifth imstalment as well as the next original story, Hoppers (from the creator of We Bare Bears) promising audiences a continuation of the studios’ enduring impact for all generations.
