Viaplay Content Distribution adds trio of dramedy series to global slate

July 29, 2025

Viaplay Content Distribution continues to strengthen its international catalogue, securing global sales rights for three distinctive series: the dramedies Adults and Suburbia, and character driven comedy Second Run.

Produced by leading Swedish production company FLX, these series showcase the diversity of Nordic storytelling, blending sharp humour, emotional depth, and compelling narratives. With award-winning talent both in front of and behind the camera, the slate reinforces Viaplay Content Distribution’s commitment to delivering premium Scandinavian content to the global market.

Adults (8×44’, TV4) – A sharply observed dramedy about love, lies, and life pains

Adulting was going fine – until someone proposed. Mathilda’s life is on track: promising career, stable relationship, and no major drama. But when her boyfriend drops a surprise marriage proposal, her perfectly curated world tilts off its axis. As Mathilda navigates mounting pressures and a secret affair, Adults delivers a sharply observed, heartfelt dramedy about ambition, expectations – and the sheer panic of possibly getting everything you thought you wanted.

From the creative minds of Amanda Högberg (‘Love & Anarchy’) and Daniel Karlsson (‘My Father Marianne’), ‘Adults’ is directed by Felix Herngren (‘Bonus Family’), Måns Herngren (‘The Restaurant’), and Adam Pålsson (‘Meaning of Life’). The stellar cast includes Carla Sehn (‘Love & Anarchy’), David Dencik (‘Prisoner’), Simon Reithner (‘Beck’), and Rakel Wärmländer (‘Limbo’).

Suburbia (6×35’, Warner Bros Discovery) – Savage, stylish, and uncomfortably relatable

A razor-sharp dramedy about one man’s slow-motion meltdown in the land of padel, passive-aggression, and painfully perfect lawns. Anders has everything he’s supposed to want: a suburban dream house, a beautiful family, and a respectable job. He also despises all of it – the status games, the forced small talk, the fake dinner parties. When his daughter is bullied at school, Anders finally snaps. What begins as righteous anger spirals into a deliciously unhinged campaign of suburban sabotage. Suburbia skewers middle-class malaise with deadpan narration, biting humour, and impeccable writing.

Directed by Henrik Schyffert (‘Sunny Side’, ‘Run Uje Run’) alongside John Nordling, ‘Suburbia’ features a sharp script from Head writer Tove Eriksen Hillblom (‘Meaning of Life’) and writer Maria Nygren (‘Love & Anarchy´). The ensemble cast is led by Mattias Nordkvist (‘The Breakthrough’), alongside Sanna Sundqvist (‘All and Eva’), Johan Widerberg (‘The Wife’), and Helena af Sandeberg (‘Meaning of Life’).

The Second Run (8×28’, SVT) – Fresh Start or Big Mistake?

A warm and witty comedy set against the stunning backdrop of a remote ski resort. City dwellers Madde and Petter dream of trading their fast-paced Stockholm life for a cozy mountain retreat, running a small family-owned hotel. But reality hits hard as disasters pile up – unruly guests, unpredictable weather, and family drama threaten to turn their fresh start into a spectacular failure.

Directed by Felix Herngren (‘Sunny Side’), Martin Persson (‘Bonus Family’), Eddie Åhgren (‘Meaning of Life’), and Emma Bucht (‘Every Other Week’), the series is penned by Niclas Carlsson (‘Sjölyckan’), Erik Hultkvist (‘Blinded’), and Tapio Leopold (‘Trouble’). Starring Sanna Sundqvist (’Thank you, I’m sorry’), Jakob Setterberg (’Grotesco’), Mattias Fransson (’Sandhamn Murders’), and William Spetz (’Tore’).

“These titles are a testament to the strength of Nordic dramedy and comedy, which increasingly resonates globally,” said Vanda Rapti, EVP Viaplay Select & Content Distribution. “Viaplay Originals such as Pørni, All & Eva, Call Me Dad and Love Me have travelled widely and successfully, and we see the same potential in these three unique shows.

Joshua Mehr, CEO of FLX, added: “Viaplay Content Distribution has been a driving force in taking our shows beyond the Nordics. We’re thrilled to keep that momentum going.”
