Max has announced that The Eastern Gate is the best performing local original production ever in Europe and will return for a second season with the script already under development.

The Eastern Gate, directed by Jan P. Matuszyński, is an action thriller that showcases a modern espionage game amid brewing international conflict and rising tensions. Starring Lena Gora as Ewa Oginiec and Karol Pocheć as her partner Skiner. Since its premiere, it ranked as the Max’s second most viewed non-English language scripted series globally, behind Max Original Brazilian telenovela Scars of Beauty.

The show has a particularly strong following in the US, with the series reflecting current tensions in Eastern Europe, with the biggest audience outside of Poland coming from America.

This year, The Eastern Gate also ranks as the second most viewed scripted title on Max in Europe, second only to The White Lotus season three. Data is based on the period January 31st to March 7th and performance of the show in the first 35 days compared to all European local original productions.

The Eastern Gate follows the similarly successful local Polish show, The Thaw, as Max continues to produce leading local content across Europe.
