WBD, Olympic Channel announce Tom Daley doc

March 17, 2025

A new documentary, Tom Daley: 1.6 Seconds, will tell the life story of five-time Olympic medallist Tom Daley OBE in a collaboration between Warner Bros Discovery and the Olympic Channel.

Set to premiere on discovery+ in the UK and Ireland early June, broadcast on Really and TNT Sports later that month, the feature documentary film explores the remarkable journey of one of Great Britain’s most iconic athletes, both in and out of the pool.

Outside of the UK and Ireland, the documentary will be broadcast on Max and discovery+ across mainland Europe in early June and broadcast on June 23rd on Eurosport, while Olympics.com will take the premiere in the US and territories outside of Europe.

Offering an intimate glimpse into his life, Tom Daley: 1.6 Seconds features exclusive footage, personal family films and candid interviews with Daley and those closest to him.  The 90-minute documentary, named after the critical time in 10 metre diving between platform exit and pool entry, charts Daley’s phenomenal career; from the build-up to his first Olympics in Beijing 2008 at just 14 years old, winning gold at Tokyo 2020, to his final Olympic appearance at Paris 2024. And now in 2025 as he enjoys family life and considers what is next post-retirement. Throughout the documentary, Daley opens up about the personal challenges he has encountered throughout his career – in the public eye, in the pool and behind the scenes. He reflects on growing up in the spotlight and under immense physical and mental pressure, the lasting influence of his late father, Robert, coming out in the media, and the emotional highs and lows of a career spanning two decades.

Daley commented: “For most of my life, my head has been in competing. I’ve lived in four-year Olympic cycles, trying my best to constantly improve my performance as an athlete. That 14- year-old me back at his first Olympics in Beijing, 2008 has been on such a journey and I’m so grateful for every moment, good and bad. I’ve received incredible support throughout the years, have the most beautiful family and as I reflect on my Silver Medal at Paris 2024, my eyes are on what the future could hold. Thank you so much to the team at Western Edge Pictures and Warner Bros Discovery for helping me share this story.”

The documentary has been produced exclusively for WBD and the Olympic Channel by Western Edge Pictures and is directed by Vaughan Sivell.  It was filmed across multiple locations including London, Los Angeles and Paris.
