Sky has announced that The Penguin, a drama series starring Colin Farrell which continues the The Batman crime saga which started with filmmaker Matt Reeves’ blockbuster movie in 2022, will be coming exclusively to Sky and streaming service NOW.
This eight-part Warner Bros Television and DC Studios drama series stars Farrell as the title character, reprising his role from the film. The Penguin is set to air later in 2024.
UK comic fans will be able to join in on the global hype, with each episode airing at the same time as the US each week and on demand thereafter.
The cast also includes: Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen. The series is executive produced by Reeves, Dylan Clark, Farrell, Lauren LeFranc, who writes and serves as showrunner, Craig Zobel, who directs the first three episodes, Bill Carraro and Daniel Pipski.
Based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, The Penguin is produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros Television, where Reeves and 6th & Idaho are under an overall deal.
Lucy Criddle, Sky Director of Acquisitions and Strategic Projects, commented: “The Penguin is an outstanding addition to our growing comic slate of films and series. With the grimy world of Gotham City amidst chaos, the story continues The Batman epic crime saga and I’m excited to see Farrell take this iconic character to new heights in this eight-part limited drama series.”
