NBA’s Wembanyama sets social media records

San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama delivered a record-shattering performance on March 17th in the win over the Brooklyn Nets. He is now the first player in NBA history to achieve 33 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 blocks while shooting 50 per cent field goal in a game.
Wembanyama is making an unprecedented impact on the league and ‘the Wemby Effect’ has been felt both on and off the court. Wembanyama has now generated over one billion views on NBA social channels this season, becoming the third most-viewed NBA player globally on social media this season, behind only LeBron James (1.3 billion) and Stephen Curry (1.2 billion).
The rookie has also driven unprecedented levels of engagement across France, Europe and globally across a variety of metrics, including social media growth, NBA League Pass viewership, linear viewership, and jersey sales.

- Wembanyama’s dunk against the Celtics on December 31st 2023 is the most-viewed video ever on NBA Instagram (153 million)
- This season, Wembanyama has gained more followers of his personal Instagram (720k) than any other player in the league besides LeBron James (797k), the perennial leader in this metric over the last decade.
- This season, the Spurs following on Instagram from France has grown 115 per cent YoY.
- The Spurs are the most-watched team on NBA League Pass in France, as viewership of Spurs games on League Pass in France has increased +177 per cent YoY
