Brazil: Extreme E extends Globo deal

Extreme E has confirmed the extension of its broadcast agreement with national Brazilian pay-TV channel sportv to televise the Championship’s second season.
Sportv is a sports pay-TV channel that belongs to Globo, the Latin America’s largest media company. Globo already events including the Olympic Games, international football, NBA and UFC. Sportv will air the Extreme E racing action plus highlights shows in Portuguese.Ali Russell, Chief Marketing Officer at Extreme E, commented: “This continuing partnership with Globo TV is crucial for our Championship. Brazilians have a huge passion for motorsport and Extreme E has proven to be no different, alongside its focus of shining a light on the significant issues affecting our planet, none more so than in South America. South America is a really important audience for our purpose driven Championship, especially as host to the lungs of the planet, the Amazon, which is on the front line of the climate crisis. As the leading national broadcaster, Globo is the perfect partner to help us engage a new generation of fans to our new sport.”

Extreme E was scheduled to visit Brazil in its inaugural campaign, however Covid-19 restrictions meant that the series was not able to race in South America in 2021. Nevertheless, the Championship has remained committed to its legacy project in the Amazon. Extreme E has partnered with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) to develop its Amazon-based Legacy Programmes which fund native forest restoration and a well-established cacao-based agroforestry programme.Members of the Extreme E team will be heading to the Amazon next week to see the project’s progress for the first time.
