The Explorers, a French television and streaming production house specialising in nature, natural history and environmental content, has announced that its output is now focused on capturing 8K/HDR material.
It is its 8K/HDR output which has created significant noise at Apple. Last year, The Explorers was Apple TV’s ‘App of the Year 2019’, whilst May 5th saw it awarded Apple’s ‘Editor’s Choice App’ for the year.
The year has also seen The Explorers achieve more than 10 million downloads, and is still the only app to stream content in 8K anywhere in the world. It has struck output deals with Samsung, and more recently UNESCO.
The Explorers community of photographers and videographers are working together to create a visual inventory of the natural world (‘The Earth Inventory’) which users can tap into and enjoy on a large TV screen, in 4K as well as 8K.
