Spain: IPTV leads on pay TV

IPTV is the main platform for pay TV distribution in Spain with 4.6 million subscribers out of the total 6.8 million pay TV customers, according to the latest figures from the CNMC.
Nine out of ten IP pay TV subscribers have a pay TV service within a convergent package. IP pay TV made sales of €400 million in the first quarter, up 16.6 versus the first quarter last year. Satellite TV though fell by 14 per cent and cable TV by 37 per cent.
Spaniards spent an average of 3 hours and 43 minutes a day in front of the TV in the first quarter with DTT getting a share of 75.8 per cent versus cable and IP’s 21.8 per cent and satellite’s 2.4 per cent.
In FTA TV Mediaset and Atresmedia are the market leaders in terms of audience ratings with a share of 27.9 and 27.7 per cent including all their channels. Tele 5 and Antena 3 are the leading channels with an average share of 14.4 and 13 per cent respectively,
Mediaset and Atresmedia control 85 per cent of television advertising revenues.
