4K and 8K bonanza at MIPCOM
October 14, 2019
The MIPCOM programming market opened with a packed schedule of UHD content, in both 4K and the even better 33 million-pixel version 8K.
Programmers from around the world are showcasing their very best 4K (and 8K) content including the BBC, ZDF, France Televisions, Discovery, China Media, Caracol (Colombia), NHK, BlueAnt/Love Nature, Travelxp4K, Paramax, FTV and more.
The BBC is screening its latest factual epic – and guaranteed ratings winner – Seven Worlds, One Planet in 4K, while Japan’s NHK public broadcaster is offering An Artist of the Floating World, various music concerts, as well as GG3D’s 8K film of Cuba and a montage of cityscapes – plus 8K natural history documentary footage from NHNZ.
CJ E&M from South Korea is screening Planet of Machines – a look at how machinery has changed our lives even when the machine itself is broken and discarded.
French production house Saint Thomas is also busy in UHD production, and is screening 8K clips from their Colors of Provence and Asteroid titles.
A wealth of UHD content is being showcased in a specially-built theatre at the Cannes Palais des Festivals, complete with 22.2 channel sound.
