Mediaset Spain preps pay OTT?
May 20, 2019
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Mediaset Spain is reportedly set to launch OTT content behind a pay-window before the end of the year.
The company is finalising the pay-model to implement into its streaming service, Mitele, with the aim to charge for premium content à la carte, and with similar functionalities to Netflix, HBO and Prime Video.
Mediaset is seeking to gain revenues through micro-payments for certain content to mitigate the fall in FTA advertising. According to ComScore, Mediaset Spain had 16 million unique users in April, up 22.5 per cent on the same month last year.
Atresmedia, the other large TV group in Spain, is also looking to make a similar move, although no announcement has been made yet.
