ProSiebenSat.1 CEO stepping down
November 20, 2017
German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 has confirmed that CEO Thomas Ebeling will leave his position in February. The news comes just following last week’s profit warning, and after Ebeling apologised for disparaging comments about the network’s viewers.
Ebeling has since apologised for calling the network’s core audience “fat” and “poor” during a conference call with financial analysts – remarks that caused a storm on social media.
Ebeling had a contract that ran until mid-2019, but in a statement ProSiebenSat.1 said: “However, already in connection with the latest renewal of his contract of employment, he informed the company that he would not be available for a further subsequent renewal. Against this background, the Supervisory Board initiated the search for a successor some time ago and will appoint a successor in due course.”
Ebeling will leave the company at the end of its fiscal year for 2017, which is scheduled for February 22nd 2018. This was reportedly mutually agreed by Ebeling and the company’s supervisory board.
