Boeing says it has completed the Critical Design Review with client ViaSat of California for its ViaSat-3 class of satellites, and is now moving forward with construction of the first craft.
ViaSat is partnering in a joint-venture with Eutelsat of Paris to place a ViaSat-3 craft operating over Europe. Currently the schedule calls for the first of the new class of satellites to be placed to serve North America, followed by the European craft.
The new class of High Throughput Satellites can handle more than 1 Terabit/second of data and content.
Boeing says the new class of satellites will be the largest and most powerful that it has ever built.
