Spain: Vodafone Super Weekend offer
March 11, 2016
From David Del Valle in Madrid
In a move to counteract Telefonica’s low cost pay-TV offers, Vodafone is launching its “Super Weekend” promotion to give its TV package TV Esencial free for a year to new customers signing up between March 11th and 13th.
New subscribers will save €144 a year as the package costs €12 a month. Vodafone TV Esencial includes the basic package and access to the TiVo platform. Football broadcasts (La Liga and the Champions) are excluded but are accessible for an additional €10.
The move is a reaction to Telefónica’s Movistar Fusion offer to its new subscribers with fibre of up to 300 Mbps for €9.90 a month over the next three months.
Movistar Plus has launched three new packages at discount prices to boost subscriptions. The first will include all football and sports at €36 a month instead of the current €45. The second will include Motor, Formula 1 and the Motor World Championship for €10 a month; and the third including basketball, tennis, rugby, golf and NFL for another €10 a month.
Movistar Plus currently has 3.7 million subscribers.
