Cult sci-fi comedy drama Red Dwarf, currently with its 11th and 12th seasons in production, is being captured for UK broadcaster ‘Dave’ in Ultra-HD.
Officials at Pinewood Studios said the production company (Baby Cow Productions and Grant Naylor Productions) are looking to future-proof the shows, and 4K production means they are ready for releasing in packaged media including 4K Blu-ray, and perhaps future broadcast.
When Red Dwarf season 10 aired on ‘Dave’ in October 2012 it averaged a significant average viewer rating of 1.7 million viewers (6.2 per cent share), and frequently achieved more than 2.6 million, well above Dave’s normal 285,000 (1.2 per cent share).
The Red Dwarf cast contains the series regulars Chris Barrie as Rimmer, Craig Charles as Lister, Danny John-Jules as Cat and Robert Llewellyn as Kryten. The two series are each of 6 x 30 minute episodes. Season 11 is due for transmission in 2016.
