StarTimes hikes DTH prices
September 16, 2015

Price rises for some StarTimes viewers in Africa have been rumoured to be about to rise. September 15th saw the reports confirmed. New rates for viewers will kick in on October 1st.
The problems for StarTimes, which last increased prices in April this year, is that the value of the US dollar when compared to local African currencies has risen dramatically. This means that programming and channel carriage deals – usually paid for in dollars – have risen just as dramatically.
Star Times says the inclusion of exclusive soccer (Bundesliga and Italian Seria A) has also meant costs must rise.
StarTimes says that DTH prices will rise by between 20 and 35 per cent for Nigeria viewers.
