India’s STB makers call for help

India’s set-top box manufacturers are complaining that despite all the talk of government action to help support their sector, and in particular supply converter boxes for the huge Phase III and Phase IV of the nation’s adoption of all-digital broadcasting, little has happened.
India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting says it has invited STB manufacturers to a meeting “to discuss with multi-system operators about the consumption of locally-manufactured STBs”.
Nevertheless, the STB sector is formally complaining that the nation’s major MSOs had not placed any orders for locally manufactured boxes. Last week saw an official complaint filed with the MIB and a meeting of its Consultative Committee discussed the issues.
