Zamora first 4G city in Spain
September 24, 2014
From David Del Valle in Madrid
The northern city of Zamora will be the first city in Spain to complete DTT migration and use the 800 MHz band frequencies to deploy 4G services.
Over the last two years, Zamora and the nearby village of Fuentesauco have been testing 4G services led by the Ministry of Industry with the cooperation of telcos Telefónica, Orange and Vodafone – and CE manufacturers.
The telcos have already started their 4G deployments in the city with new DTT legislation just coming into force. DTT retuning is already under way, with broadcasters obliged to simulcast their DTT signals until the migration process is completed before January 1st
According to the new DTT plan, before December 31st broadcasters will have to reach a DTT coverage of at least 96 per cent of the population in the digital multiplexes MPE1, MPE2 and MPE3 and at least 80 per cent in MPE4 multiplex.
