Last week’s on-air Telethon raised enough money for Russia’s Dozhd (Rain) TV to stay on air for another month.
“Since the beginning of the marathon to raise funds for the channel, viewers and just people who care have transferred to the Dozhd account enough money for the channel to operate one [more] month,” quotes BBC Monitoring.
About Roubles 20 million was raised (about $560,000). The fund-raising ended on March 30th with a Gala concert in Moscow.
The public appeal for cash was needed to compensate for the ending of several cable distribution deals.
