Sony has confirmed it is developing original TV shows for its PlayStation video game consoles. The first show, Powers, will be based on a graphic novel about a detective dealing with a world full of people with God-like powers. Sony’s TV division is producing the show.
In America, Powers will be exclusively available on Playstation Network, the subscription entertainment service built into Sony’s consoles. Internationally, the door is open for Powers to be sold to other services or TV channels.
Rival video game console Xbox is also getting into original content. Microsoft hired CBS veteran Nancy Tellem in 2012 to spearhead the initiative. A series based on the popular video game Halo is in the works.
