RTP launches second screen app in Portugal
February 5, 2014
From Branislav Pekic in Rome
Public broadcaster RTP has launched 5i, the first second screen TV application in Portugal.
While watching their favourite programmes on RTP (TV series, talk show, game show, etc.), viewers can open a special dedicated app on their smartphone or tablet. This will enable them to receive additional information on the programme, vote on their favourite competitor, or even submit a question to the TV presenter to be asked from the interviewee.
One of the TV programmes that already supports the app is “5 To Midnight”, where viewers end up becoming co-presenters.
The launch of 5i fits in with RTP’s strategy of technological innovation and media management that resulted in the launch of Portuguese Innovative Media Solutions (PIMS) last October. The consortium consists of nine companies and aims to create an innovative offer in the media area, developing new generation solutions.
