Portugal Telecom installs 500,000 IPTV STBs
November 19, 2012
Motorola Mobility’s home business and Portuguese triple play service provider Portugal Telecom are celebrating the deployment of the 500,000th IPTV set-top box into the award-winning Meo TV service – currently in the homes of almost 1.2 million Portuguese subscribers.
Motorola has been supporting the growth of Portugal Telecom’s Meo triple-play subscription service since its launch in 2008; initially providing Motorola VIP1200E and VIP1216E set-top boxes to help expand Meo’s footprint, both of which support high-definition and standard-definition video, with the VIP1216E also featuring a built-in hard drive for PVR functions.
Since then, Motorola has added significantly to this estate, with a total of half a million set-tops now being used to deliver Meo to Portuguese subscribers. Portugal Telecom continues to use Motorola’s VIP1200 and VIP1216 IPTV set-tops and now benefits from the flexibility of Motorola’s VIP1232 set-top; a compact, superior, HD television IP set-top with a built-in hard disk drive for DVR functionality.
