Poland’s largest media group Cyfrowy Polsat has agreed to buy online video service ipla for 150 million zlotys ($48.1 million) from a company owned by Cyfrowy’s controlling shareholder Zygmunt Solorz-Zak, it has confirmed.
According to Cyfrowy Polsat’s CEO Dominik Libicki, the acquisition complements the company strategy to provide the widest possible distribution of content using the latest equipment and technology.
ipla currently has about 1.4 million users. Its popularity is growing as it expands availability on mobile devices and TVs with internet access. About 90 per cent of its revenues are generated through the sale of advertising and 10 per cent from the acquisition of content by users.
