Italy DTT: Government proposals on Jan 20
January 19, 2012
By Chris Forrester
Corrado Passera, Italy’s minister with responsibility for Industry, says he will present his formal proposals for the allocation of new DTT frequencies to parliament on January 20th.
Currently frequencies have been give free of charge, but the reports are that the cash-strapped Italian government wants a fee-based system to be implemented.
Speaking to parliamentary delegates on January 18th he strongly implied the system would switch to a payment-based allocation. He said the new frequencies have a strategic as well as economic value, which might indicate some sort of ‘beauty contest’ would emerge.
