Belgium’s Telenet cable operator has been fined €250,000 by the country’s regulator for not being clear in its advice as to how consumers could change suppliers. Telenet changed its operating terms and conditions on October 1st 2010 but failed to be clear and transparent in giving obligatory advice as to how subscribers could switch to another provider, and the user’s right to cancel a contract without charges.
Telenet did provide the necessary advice, but buried the terms in ‘small print’ on its website and on the back of customer’s monthly bills, which the re3gulator deemed to be insufficient.
The fine must be paid within 60 days of the regulator’s November 29th decision.
