Canal Plus and TVN merge Polish DTH
November 2, 2011
Following the news in October that France’s leading pay-TV platform Canal Plus was entering into exclusive negotiations with Poland’s ITI and TVN Groups to create a strategic partnership in Poland, ITI has confirmed that Canal Plus is to buy a “significant minority” stake in ITI, the parent company of the owner of 51 per cent shares of TVN SA, Poland’s largest television network, and has an option to buy the controlling stake “over time”. ITI Holdings SA, the Polish group’s ultimate parent company, did not reveal the value of the deal.
At the same time, TVN and Canal Plus agreed to merge their Polish satellite pay-TV businesses in a joint venture, ITI said. The new company, in which TVN will hold a “significant minority” stake, will have more than 2.5 million subscribers, ITI said, without giving the timeframe of the agreement.
