YouTube may load all channels metadata
June 8, 2010
On the heels of BBC iPlayer saying they will ingest metadata for programmes from other broadcasters, YouTube is set to do the same. It is said to be in talks with UK broadcasters with which doesn't have a programme carriage deal.
YouTube already has deals to host catch-up TV from 4oD and Demand Five but ITV has declined deals with YouTube and others while it builds up ITV Player. BBC does let YouTube carry its channels but not its iPlayer VOD service. At least carrying the listings for services it doesn't host allows YouTube to build towards its aim of being an on ramp for all available TV services. There is little downside for broadcasters as it will help built traffic to their players.
